With a promise to take them out on the boat soon, I left the guys back at the resort and headed for The Warf. I always had a great time when I hung out with those two, and having Denny on the back of my bike hadn't been weird at all. He wasn't Liam, but he was a friend. I wished I'd spent more time with them before this.

The wind blew through my hair and the air cooled as reds and oranges bled across the sky with the sinking sun. I let the thrum of the Harley sooth away some of my regrets.

I rolled into the parking lot at the marina and punched my code in the gate. I rode the Harley through and headed to my storage shed. Liam would be here any time, and then we could head out.

My skin tingled with the memory of his hands on my body. I shivered in the warm evening air as I stowed my bike and tossed my pants and boots on a small shelf, switching into shorts and flip-flops.

Liam usually met me at the shed, but he hadn't appeared by the time I was done, so I headed down to my slip to get my boat ready to go out.

The mayflies had hatched and coated the boats. I grumbled but got out the hose. Diamond was due for a washing anyway. It would give me something to do while I waited for Liam.

I sprayed the deck, washed it, was tempted to start in with some polish…where was Liam?

Had I done something wrong? Was he mad at me? Hell, even when I did piss him off, he still showed up to patrol. Maybe he was upset about last night?

I sank down into the captain's chair and groaned. Why wasn't he here? I wanted his hands on me, his lips pressed against mine, his reassuring presence. But more importantly, I wanted to know everything was still okay between us. Should I call him? Maybe something had come up?

When a quick glance at my phone showed no messages or missed calls, I grumbled and shoved it back into the waterproof case I wore strapped to my arm when I was alone and put it on.

I waited another half hour, but it was pretty clear he wasn't coming, so I finally fired up the twin inboards and headed out onto the dark water. Tuning out my churning mind, I focused on navigating the dark night. Liam was nearly always with me in the evenings and I was used to his vampiric vision compensating for mine. Though I had noticed that my night vision was better than it had been, especially underwater, I wasn't an apex nocturnal predator like Liam. I throttled back a little and let my senses guide me. I had considered getting a fancy radar unit back when I'd first been cursed, but with Liam along, I hadn't needed to. Now I just hoped there wasn't anything out there my running lights would miss.
